Spike's life before his fateful meeting with Hunter
In the chaos of war, Spike seizes a Nature wolf named Ran, claiming him as his own. Spike insists their bond is one of equal partnership, but as time passes, it becomes clear that Spike's actions rarely match his words. Ran becomes the centerpiece of Spike's twisted fantasy of an idyllic life.
Ran, a straight man, recently turned wolf, is thrust into this new life and the world of Hunt wolves. Things only worsen when he tries to return to his Nature pack. The wolves there shun him, seeing only that he’s bound to a Hunt wolf, unable—or unwilling—to differentiate whether the bond is forced or not. Isolated from both sides, Ran is forced to navigate his unwanted bond with Spike while wrestling with the loss of his former life.
Notes:
This was originally written as a collection of short stories and marked the beginning of Spike as a character. It dates back to around 2015, when I had much less writing experience. The story has since been completely rewritten, and I’m slowly continuing to develop it further.
